The Photography Thread
Here's some pictures Glenn took with his Canon camera, I need to do an online course or similar. Any suggestions? I have only really just recently got into photography.

Re: BBC4 - David Hockney's Secret Knowledge
Cool photos
To be honest, if you've only just recently got into photography my advice would be to buy yourself a good book, just a simple one that covers all the basic principles first.
I’ve actually never really looked into online courses, but I’m assuming you mean free ones? (I'll see what I can find ok).
There's so much information online though that it can be quite overwhelming and confusing for those just starting out, so I would always suggest reading a book or two first. Get yourself a book, sit down with your camera and just take it at your own pace
Once you’ve got the basics down, then you can really begin to experiment and get creative with your camera and use it to its fullest potential…seriously, I know people who have spent a small fortune on camera equipment and they’ve never used anything other than the auto function. Full manual control is definitely the way to go, but it takes a little practise.
Another piece of advice, take your camera everywhere! (I never leave home without one)
…oh, and be sure to post a few pics!

Nice one...although I have to admit I've never read them.
It's funny, I actually studied under Tom Ang for a while (nice guy).
It would be nice to know how you get along

Re: BBC4 - David Hockney's Secret Knowledge
Looks like a fun day out...although I'm not sure your kids would agree by the looks on their faces
Shooting in auto mode for days out like this is fine, no worries. As long as you've captured the moment, thats all that really counts.
It's just when you feel ready to get a bit more creative and perhaps shoot some portraits, landscapes or fast paced action, that's when it's good to go manual and set your own apertures and shutter speeds (it can make a world of difference).

Great shot SatDish
Here's a few shots that I've taken in the past, sorry the quality isn't great and they're quite small but I've had a few issues with some of my images being "borrowed" on occasions.

Took this shot with a toy camera (with a plastic lens)

Taken in India when I did a story on the street kids who were being abducted and murdered (he was one of the lucky ones).
I guess it just goes to show that you don't always need fancy and expensive equipment to take some pretty interesting photosLast edited by diverse180; 02-03-09 at 05:49 PM.
