Let's Get Out There And Gadget

In 1993, it was virtual reality (Cyberzone). Between 1998 and 2004 it was robots (Robot Wars). We don't know what it is about Craig Charles that makes him such a fit for presenting shows about futuristic tech, but we suspect his time aboard the small rouge one might have something to do with it.
And now, in 2017, he's going back to that fertile ground, as it's been announced that he'll be one of the new hosts of The Gadget Show upon its revamped return to Channel 5 later this month.
Since its launch back in 2004, The Gadget Show has been one of the channel's stalwart programmes, turning out a whopping 24 series so far. For this new revamp, existing presenters Ortis Deley and Jon Bentley are sticking around, to be joined by Craig and fellow newcomer Georgie Barrat. Among his new duties, Craig will be presenting a monologue at the start of each episode, rounding up the latest week in tech.
"I've always been into my gadgets and have been involved with tech on other shows I've done like Robot Wars and Red Dwarf," said Craig, "So I'm really delighted to be joining such a legendary programme. Hopefully, it will impress my kids and they'll think of me as a cool dad for once!
"I'm more of an enthusiast than an expert, but technology is such a big part of all our lives these days that you can't help but be fascinated with it. I see myself as the everyman, asking experts the questions we all want the answers to, and making the subject as accessible as possible."
It all sounds very worth a watch, although we hope for their sake that Craig's a little more careful handling expensive new tech items than he is with props on the Red Dwarf set...
The Gadget Show returns to Channel 5 on Friday 10th March at 7pm!

Will be interesting to see Craig do this.
Oh those years of Robot Wars he did were the best. The last series recently broadcast should be tossed into the Pit of Oblivion.
Gadget show is one of those programmes I record and do FF through a lot of it. Mostly the gaming stuff which I have no interest in and the daft transport 'top gear or Grand Tour' stuff.
They always have been upfront that they are paid to promote tech, which is a shame and thus cannot always give such an unbiased review.
Would be nice to win the comp and have that truck full of tech drive up to your front door.
Glad Amy Williams has left after her two year spell, as pretty and extremely athlete fit as she was, she just did not really come across well as a techy.
Rachel Riley was just awful on it and its been said she is being moved on from the Friday football show on sky that she co-presented a few times this year. No idea why they chose her, but she was bad and I did get asked in a face to face survey about her and told them in no uncertain terms what a poor choice that was.

That program lost direction years ago, stupid challenges and biased reviews every week. Maybe give it a go again now but I don't expect that format will change much now, and there's way better tech/gadget channels on Youtube.
