      TV Offerings : Festive Period

      Hello All
I was just wondering if anybody had anything positive to say about
the 'Holiday Offerings' on offer from the 'Mainstream' TV Channels
over the last Three (3) Days : ITV appears to have won on christmas
day with Downton Abbey : although not my type of show SWMBO enjoyed
the whole series. I struggle to think of anything good to say about any
other programme, The only good film for Boxing Day was Skyfall shown
      on ITV4 HD last night........

For the amount of Money we pay each year in fees of one sort or another
the quality of mainstream entertainment is shocking : Repeats & reruns
of Old series or shows we have seen numerous times & some of the Newer
programmes are so poor !! but Maybe its just Me......
Thank God for Boxed Sets & Catch Up plus The DVD Collection.
I am now seriously thinking of a Netflix / Amazon Prime subscription.
and Maybe follow the route taken by other members of this Forum.

      Just a Thought................

I did record Doctor Who and managed to watch it last night.

On Christmas day we mostly watched various films and had a good chat too.

      Well I say "we"...

...I was mostly in the kitchen and running around sorting out the dinner and evening meal.

Still, with the amount of alcohol in my Christmas cake, I certainly kept them quiet later in the evening. hehehehe

Frankly, I think it's dross, aimed at the lowest common denominator!

Having said that, I enjoyed Mrs Brown's Boys.

Just mostly garbage of the 1st order and that includes Doctor Who which I described elsewhere as "a waste of Alex Kingston".

I guess Mrs Brown's Boys is one of those programmes which you either love or hate.

A friend of a friend won't watch it because Brendan O'Carroll dresses as a woman.

I once introduced the series to another friend and she told me off the next day. Apparently she had to watch the entire first series before she could sleep. We'd been talking about it at around 10pm.

I watched about five minutes of that a few years ago and thought, what utter foul mouthed, pathetic, unfunny garbage!

Re: TV Offerings : Festive Period

      Hello All
I have to say that I agree with bubblegun & have never found Mr's Browns Boys very
entertaining a bit like the Royal Family another series which held no appeal for Me.
To date I have not seen any trailers for New series / shows due in 2016 that have
any appeal for Me apart from the new series of NCIS on Fox.
I am a Crime & Thriller Fan so I hope there may be a New Inspector Banks Series to come.
One very good series if you are a Wildlife Fan is the ' Wild Franchise' on Nat Geo Wild but
that may not appeal to some.
I am seriously thinking of a Trial for Netflix / Amazon Prime although I am not keen on a
further increase in Monthly Payments : Alas My Sky Bill has just landed in my inbox with
      the 5.00 increase (Talk Package).
Maybe there will be some Good News to come on the programme horizon ' One lives in Hope'

      Just a Thought......Have a Nice Day...................

Re: TV Offerings : Festive Period

Did not think the festive tv was that bad.
Plenty of films, old and newish to watch across many channels (no sky movies here).
Even though we do not watch the BBC that much normally, we did watch our usual eastenders (what more can I say, typical xmas storyline) and the Dickenisan and And then there was none was enjoyable.
Dr Who was poor (except River), but then Capaldi and the writing have both been very poor this series , so did not expect much.
ITV and C4 never got a look in, but we did make good use of gold/sky1/atlantic, watch, xmas food and syfy. C5 with the strongman series was good viewing along with many films.
Did catchup with some on demand goodies from sky boxsets and Fergus the bogeyman was excellent.
Plenty of football and cricket to watch on sky, so great sport enjoyment for us all there too.
Still another week to go for all us, so will be watching much the same, except none of the year review stuff and certainly none of the new years eve yawnfest!
One of our favourites to watch tonight will be the first two episodes of the new hawaii five 0 series.

Re: TV Offerings : Festive Period

      Hello All
I must admit that I did start to watch Dr Who of which I have always been a Fan
although I did switch channels part way : It was quite poor & I believe the series
with Capaldi has lost its sparkle..!! shame
We as a Household are not Soap Opera Fans so do not watch any (Thank God)
Although I am a Lifelong 'West Ham' fan & love Rugby Union I refuse to pay Sky's
exorbitant price for the Sports Pack HD.........

although I have the email Link for SkyQ info I very much doubt it will hold much advantage for Us : As it may well improve delivery it cannot improve the Content..!!
There appears to be some good looking series (the man in the High Castle) on Amazon Prime so we may try the 30 day trial (must remember to cancel) if the rest
      looks poor.........

Maybe the way to Go is Freeview/Freesat & Stream a few 'Gems' when on Offer..!!

Just a Thought..............'Off to the Pub' for Lunch....
      Fed up with Turkey !!!
