Channel 5 unveils The X Files in UK premiere

Channel 5 unveils The X Files in UK premiere | Channel 5

Channel 5 announces the acquisition of The X-Files, which returns as a thrilling, special six-episode series event in early 2016. The X-Files will be executive produced by series creator Chris Carter, with original cast David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
The event series marks the momentous return of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning drama, thirteen years after the original run. The X-Files remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The series has been acquired from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution and will air early in 2016. The deal also includes THE X-FILES ESSENTIAL COLLECTION, 20 episodes - specially selected by series creator Chris Carter - taking viewers through the gripping story of the original series.

Ben Frow, Director of Programmes for Channel 5 said: “Securing the UK premiere of the hugely anticipated return of The X-Files is a major coup for the channel and will create one of the television events of 2016. This acquisition underlines our ambition to deliver a diverse slate of brilliant, must-see programming on Channel 5.”

Steve Cornish of Twentieth Century Fox Distribution commented: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Channel 5 as we bring the next chapter of one of our most celebrated series to fans around the world.”

The X-Files originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – "X-Files" – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

Other returning characters include Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis, playing Walter Skinner and The Smoking Man respectively.

Produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Ten Thirteen Productions, The X-Files is created and executive-produced by Chris Carter.

The series will air early in 2016 on Channel 5.

This I have to see! It will join the Blacklist as the must not miss programs for early 2015.

I just hope that it is as good as the original series.

I think with Chris Carter behind it all it should be.

Am I the only one who tired quickly of the X-Files? The way they dragged it out purposefully without actually ever progressing the theme unless they had to? I will probably watch the first one, but I suspect little will have changed.

The dragging out of the plot was very annoying.
Many American shows tend to do that though.

Quite agree it really was not great after the first 4/5 series.
Not sure a remake will capture the spirit of the first few series.
If I remember there were a couple of tv films which were not good.

Re: Channel 5 unveils The X Files in UK premiere

I'm hoping they don't do that with the Blacklist, it was only going to run for three seasons but it's now supposed to be five. Much as I love the program I'd hate to see it spoiled by poor scripts.
