      Bye bye Jeremy.

Jeremy Clarkson dropped from Top Gear, BBC confirms - BBC News

Jeremy Clarkson's contract will not be renewed after an "unprovoked physical attack" on a Top Gear producer, the BBC's director general has confirmed.

Tony Hall said he had "not taken this decision lightly" and recognised it would "divide opinion".
However, he added "a line has been crossed" and he "cannot condone what has happened on this occasion".

Clarkson was suspended on 10 March, following what was called a "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.
The row, which took place in a Yorkshire hotel, was said to have occurred because no hot food was provided for him following a day's filming.

An internal investigation began last week, led by Ken MacQuarrie, the director of BBC Scotland.
It found that Mr Tymon took himself to hospital after he was subject to an "unprovoked physical and verbal attack".
"During the physical attack Oisin Tymon was struck, resulting in swelling and bleeding to his lip. The verbal abuse was sustained over a longer period, both at the time of the physical attack and subsequently."
The verbal abuse "contained the strongest expletives and threats to sack" Mr Tymon, who believed he had lost his job, Mr MacQuarrie noted in his report.
The "physical attack lasted around 30 seconds and was halted by the intervention of a witness," he added.
There's a lot more to this story in the link.

Pity! He may be a complete idiot, but he made Top Gear.

How the BBC think they can continue to attract an audience with a new team trying to front it is beyond me.

Personally i think he had to go.

It's strange - i could never really like the man we saw but found him very entertaining nonetheless.
Until the last 2 or 3 series top gear had been my favourite programme since its re-launch in 2001.

I think the time is right for a shake-up though & it could potentially be even better.
Not that i'll be betting on that happening.

Coverage of this story would of course be incomplete without...

Jeremy Clarkson fired just two years after Top Gear films in Cheddar Gorge | Cheddar Valley Gazette

"The decision came in the face of a million signature petition protesting at the possibility Clarkson would be fired.

It comes just two years after Clarkson's colleague James May filmed a sequence with a double-decker bus in Cheddar Gorge.
Clarkson is not believed to have been there for the filming."

For some reason he always reminded me of the Fred Wedlock song.

The Beeb didn't have much choice really! I think it will also be the end of Top Gear
especially as it sounds as if the other two are going as well. Anything else just
wouldn't be the same, even if it was getting a bit tried.

      RIP Top Gear.

      Re: Bye bye Jeremy.

I am not a Clarkson or Top Gear fan but think the BBC need to look at themselves in relation to bias or being inconsistent.

The obnoxious Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross in what appeared to be their drunken on air episode against Andrew Sacks were merely suspended for a short time and are now back on air on various programmes on BBC radio and TV.

Surely they deserved to be sacked like Clarkson but were not!!

      Re: Bye bye Jeremy.

I am sure that Top Gear will go through a successful reincarnation.

Yes it will be different, yes it will still have car, caravans (perhaps!), lorries and lots of fun. However it is called "Top Gear" not the "Jeremy Clarkson Show".

There are currently two other perfectly capable presenters (James May and Richard Hammond) who I am sure are more than able to work with the team behind the scenes in order to create a whole new show.

Will the BBC recruit a 3rd presenter? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Simply put though JC hit someone in the work place. This was his mistake and had to be dealt with.

In any other firm such action would have been classified as Serious Misconduct and resulted in instant dismissal.

Had the BBC not sacked him then it would be saying that it is alright to hit someone in the work place. I would hope that everyone would agree with me when I say that this would have been an unacceptable situation for all concerned.

As for the potential Police investigation, that's neither here nor there. There are far too many other crimes which are not being dealt with due to the Police having their funds slashed. I would hope that they would instead spend time investigating them.

      Re: Bye bye Jeremy.

Russel Bwand or Johnathan Woss would make good replacements for him. Both have the same arrogant know it all outlook as Clarkson.
