Extending my phone line
HI
I am looking to get sky bb, Currently i am with ntl bb and my phone line is with bt so the bb has its own line.
the phone line that comes in to my house is a wire with 2 cores. This goes in to the main socket downstairs.
can i extend this by using a 2 core wire, making a junction at where the wire from the outside pole comes in to the main socket downstairs and bringing a wire upstairs.
will this give a better connection than running an ready made extension lead through the house??
thanks to who ever can help

Re: Extending my phone line
Hi
Check out the cabling / faceplate section for loads of info on this. You can run an extension upstairs but I would use cat5e data cable and ensure that is connected as described in the above section.
cheers

Re: Extending my phone line
It would, but I think it would be illegal to do so. You can install any wiring you wish after the main socket (i.e, run an extention, add a socket etc) but from what your saying you want to (unless I am reading it wrong, apolgies in advance if I am) make a junction before the main socket. This will be a BT job.
What you can do though, is run a cable from the main socket back out, and then upstairs. As long as you use good quality line, this would probably give you a better connection, for the reasons that the wire is better, and presumably the length of that wire will be shorter than running it through the house.
Would also suggest using a socket from ADSLNation.
