      TEST SOCKET Connection For Life

Like many people here I have now connected my router to the test socket behind the master faceplate and have basically doubled my speed.

Am I allowed to leave this connected or am I breaking some BT rule? Are they going to come around and arrest me?

Or do I need to get by a new faceplate?

      Thanks everyone - P.S I love skyuser.co.uk its a fantastic site / forum!!

If you leave it connected to the test socket, you realise that any phones etc. plugged into any extensions won't work?......... [as extensions are fed by the faceplate, & the faceplate is fed by the test socket...]

For a probable instant improvement, you could disconnect the ring wire (orange wire, white bands) from terminal 3 on the IDC block on the back of the faceplate, & also from the back of whichever extension you usually use for the router.

I did this, & my noise margin shot up & my sync speed went up from around 4000ish to over 8000.

A better overall solution is to get a new faceplate:

ADSL Nation - XTE-2005 - Filtered Master Faceplate

... and then connect the router to the ADSL socket on the new faceplate (using a decent quality ADSL extension if necessary), or hardwire an extension for the router to the unfiltered terminals on the IDC on the back of the faceplate.
