2 wires from BT Main Faceplate

Today I was decorating so stripped faceplate right back ( I have ADSL XE filtered box on ) and coming from the the outside world was a total of 2 wires from Bt. All the rest were cut short.

I have no idea what that means - I only connected two to the faceplate - left ringer wire undone. Is this correct?

Re: 2 wires from BT Main Faceplate

Phone lines work off a twisted pair, one wire is called the 'A' leg which carries an earth and the other wire is the 'B' leg which carries a 50 volt battery. When the phone rings this voltage is increased to 75 volts in order to make your phone ring.
