Improved Stats With New Master Socket

Well atm! We have an old type box!
      Few questions?
The line attenuation is 35.0db? And can only give 8Mb, According to Sky this is because of the line and speeds should be higher having installed a new socket?

I read somewhere that Saturdays attenuation is 38.0db he happily syncs at 13000kbps?

      1. Would the new box be a seperate install or will it replace the old box?
      2. Has the new box improved anyones stats?

Sorry if this is a re-post please delete if this is the case!

My experience for what it's worth:

I already had the newer type NTE master socket but I initially decided to invest in a ADSL Nation XTE2005 faceplate (12.00) with a view to connecting wirelessly upstairs which basically doubled my sync speed to any where up to about 5800 but my actual best download speed was only about 2400 (wirelessly) and the connection was a total bugger and always dropping out until I managed to get it to sync at about 4600 after many reboots at the noisier time in the evenings when I eventually managed to achieve a stable connection.

I have just spent more money on a XTF68 extension socket (8.99) and hardwired a new cable upstairs (6.00) from the XTE2005 downstairs. I now happily immediately sync at about 4600 and my true download speed is about 4000 (ethernet) and more importantly it's completely stable. I suppose this is about the best i could have hoped to achieve given my attenuation of 53.5db.

I think it's simply a case of taking out the internal noise created by any extensions/bad wiring which you may have within your property to be able to achieve the best results for your connection. DSL Zone reports that you should be able to get between 8000 and 12000. Unfortunately in your situation there's no way of knowing if you'll get an improvement until you do it. It's a simple job if your reasonably ok at DIY and I certainly wouldn't be paying BT's extortionate charges for doing it but a lot does depend on how complex your layout is.

For me it's definitely been 30.00 well spent out of my savings from Pipex!!!

I seem to remember a figure of 130 being mentioned somewhere just to replace the master socket!!!! Don't know how true this is though.

You might get away with 65 or even free

BT will always do what they can to eliminate voice line faults. If you think you have a fault (e.g. occasional crackling or hissing on the line) then you are perfectly entitled to call an engineer out.

Unless you are very unlucky (or tight with the tea and bikkies) he/she will almost certainly fit a new NTE5 - maybe even a BT filtered faceplate as you have ADSL.

I recently had a voice fault, and when the engineer came out I smiled nicely at him and suggested I needed a new socket (I'd got an old one too .. ) - he said he would fit one (which he did) - but unfortunately not the ADSL one .... he said they (the voice engineers) didn't do ADSL ....
