BT Phone cable for small extension off MAIN socket, feedback please

      hi there guys,

I am having Sky Fibre Optic installed soon and since my main socket is a little far from where I'd want all the equipment to be set (we're talking about 3 meters tops), i am thinking to get some phone cable off ebay and lay it down so once the engineer comes he will simply have to patch to the main cable on one end and on the other end he would just install the vdsl2 BT socket on the wall..job done.

so my question is, what is the exact phone cable needed? I found on ebay few different types, for example would this be good 20m BT Telephone Cable Wire 3 Pair 6 Core 20 metre White Phone Cabel | eBay or would i need something like this one CW1308 3pair Internal BT Telephone Cable Pure Copper Conductor - 100m Drum New | eBay which is copper?

Otherwise if it's some other fancy expensive cable i can simply not bother and let the engineer do it....though If i can do it rather cheaply I don't mind and make it a nice installation too, sometimes they are not that....ehm precise..

      thanks a lot!
      Gabrio

Either would be fine. As long as the cores are in pairs, that means twisted together which reduces interference. The cheaper one of the 2 looks in the picture exactly the same stuff that BT uses.

ohh thats good to know so i might go ahead and get it then

otherwise, if i don't do it do you think the BT guy would do what i want or he might start complaining that is a non-standard installation and he will only install the vdsl2 faceplate on the main socket and then it's my problem that is in a location i don't like? sorry for all the questions but is the first time i need to have the connection point elsewhere.

      thanks!

I read somewhere on here that when Sky fibre first came out the engineers were quite helpful in repositioning sockets within reason! i.e. not 40 foot away in the loft or something daft! But not sure how things stand now with many installs being 'self install' and the new single hub, rather than having to have a separate BT modem as well.

I think sometimes it depends on your luck on the day and if you supply him with tea and cakes! I managed to get a Sky engineer to assist me running cables from the dish up through the eves and through my loft, as I didn't want them running round the outside of the house! He wouldn't go in the loft so I did the inside bit.
Another day if they are busy they wouldn't want to know!

3m? It would be a lot easier to just get a 3m vDSL lead.

I was referring to the lead for the modem, you could get a 3m extension lead for the phone too. So, longer lead for modem & extension lead for phone.

The standard for Sky Fibre is now self install, which means no engineer will visit your house, only the cabinet. Engineer installs are still available at extra cost, 30 I think.

Both of the links you give are CCS, which is copper coated steel, you would be better with a good quality solid copper such as - CW1308 Twisted Pair Telephone Cable, 10M White

As suggested you would be better with a VDSL lead and a plain telephone extension - 3m RJ45 to RJ11 ADSL/VDSL Patch Lead

You should also note that, with self install, you will have to supply a VDSL faceplate yourself. These are very simply fitted.- GENUINE BT NTE5 vDSL Filtered Faceplate|Openreach&#8482 Branded

& if you really only need 3m of cable buy the parts from us & we'll supply 3m FOC Just email your order ID to the support email address on our website & mention/link this thread. You will also need a junction box to join to what you have, a BT80A would be the norm.
