What type of copper wiring to use?
My parents house has a very early 1980s oval-shaped connector in the loft where the external overhead phone wire comes in, with coloured telephone wires coming out to various (unused) extensions around the house. The external wire seems to be a single pair of wires, not two pairs.
I want to fit a master socket downstairs (disclaimer: I realise I'm not supposed to), and was wondering what type of wire I should buy to extend that copper pair down to the socket?Last edited by andyste1; 09-02-14 at 03:25 PM.

Re: What type of copper wiring to use?
So cw1308 is okay, even though the external wire is only 2-core, and fairly heavy gauge by comparison?

Re: What type of copper wiring to use?
Yes, many properties have been brought up to date with the flat twin copper being replaced with twisted pair external cable. If anything goes wrong with the dropwire to the house, twisted pair is used in the replacement. Although it is a much lighter gauge, twisted pair is much more efficient than twin solid cable.
