      Latest NTE5's

The latest NTE5 master sockets are fitted with the bell wire filter but also have the 26A over voltage protector removed. This was done at BT's request & it's been shown to improve vDSL connections.

      Re: Latest NTE5's

How new are these? Will OR be fitting them from 'now' or have they been fitting them for a while? Just wondering as my fibre was fitted in April, so assuming this is the previous version?

Any ideas what improvement is likely?

We've had them for quite a while now, yours should be the new version. Easy to check :-

Thank you, it hadn't previously been mentioned on this forum.

Do you happen to know in what conditions this improves the line for VDSL and by how much?

      Re: Latest NTE5's

Reports from customers suggest it's good for about 1-4mb depending on existing download speed. However, the sample of feedback is too small at present to say all users will see some improvement.

      Thank you.

I guess that most people will be unaware of this product and will not have compared the two versions.

I see that you also have some pictures showing what to look for here: Another design change for 2012! : NTE5 Design Change

      Re: Latest NTE5's

Funnily enough we weren't made aware of it until it had been in production for a few months! For some reason it was kept quite by the manufacturer. Interestingly it was done at BT's request, the manufacturer advised against it we were told. Some people strive for every bit they can from their connection so this is just another one of those things you can try.

      Re: Latest NTE5's

With all the competition in the world of broadband, keeping such things quiet is understandable.

BT Retail could then go to those homes with the new NTE5 sockets and boast that they are quicker than the competitors.

...or do I have the wrong idea about BT?

I assume they have some other way of preventing over voltage. If they don't it could be a bad move.

Nope, nothing. They were advised against it but i guess decided the possible gains were worth it.
