Connecting to the master socket in attic

Hi there! I have just switched to sky unlimited after being previously on o2 broadband, and setup my sky hub earlier today. I currently connect the router to a telephone extension in one of the upstairs bedrooms as the master socket is in the attic.

I realise that the for the first 10 days, my line will be tested, so current speeds wont be accurate, but I was wondering what the best way to connect the router to the master socket would be in my current situation as the master socket being in the attic is fairly impractical.

      Thanks in advance

Re: Connecting to the master socket in attic

I would look at getting a suitable Cat 5e cable with a par of RJ11 connectors at each end or look at rewiring the telephone cable and move the master socket. Whilst this last option is against BTO's guidance, if it is done well they tend to ignore it.

If you want help getting the right cables, use the run-IT-direct site:

      Telephone|vDSL|ADSL|Computer Networking Products| Buy Online | run-it-direct.co.uk

The main guy does contribute to this forum but looking at their site they are moving premises this weekend and will be busy. Could I suggest that you take some pictures of your existing wiring in the loft, any BTO Junction boxes and a picture of the existing master socket? There are some good members who can contribute to suggesting what wiring would help.
