re: bt Openreach line to the pole

Whilst it doe not look at all very tidy, I would not be concerned with the telephone cable touching the fire escape.

However I am concerned about where the two lines passes both over and under that electrical cable. Both telephone cables will pick up interference from it and mess up your broadband connection.

As for whether BTO considers this acceptable, I would not like to comment. Perhaps someone else might wish to?

It might be important to establish whether the line was put in before or after the fire escape. If the fire escape was installed after the telephone cable, then I would suspect that BTO will wish to charge you for the work. You in turn may have to charge the owner of the property or the contractors who installed the fire escape.

Also when was that electrical cable installed? Again was it installed before or after the telephone cable? If it was installed after, then which sparky put it there and why did no one complain at the time?

Are you still experiencing any issues with your broadband or telephone?

It will be interesting when Fibre becomes available later this year for you (or perhaps early next year). All the signals will surely mess up everyone's broadband as they use higher pitched signals which can bleed out more.

Why not write to Ofcom? Show them a copy of the picture. It would also be helpful if you can show them more of the lines going to their respective telegraph poles.

Your connection speed is very good. The crackling on the line however is not good.

That is a sign that the cable in broken somewhere between the socket and the telephone exchange.

re: bt Openreach line to the pole

      Nice result.

Once upon a time people used to put up with a little crackling on a telephone line and not think much of it. It didn't really affect the conversation much and there was only the one provider (GPO).

Now with ADSL and VDSL broadband it has become more important and there are also various different providers competing for our business.

Sadly it is mostly BTO who will maintain out telephone lines (VM and KCOM maintain their own lines, as do many other new providers which are popping up around the country).
