      Grommet Question

Okay, I have just purchased a ready-made extension cable to enable me to switch the living room around and plug in my Sky HD in another part of the room. The cable needs to run outside but once I've drilled the holes and clipped the cable into position, it's literally plug in and go. However, and this may be perhaps the dumbest question posted on here, I need a grommet that will allow me to pass the shotgun cable (with connectors attached) through as I want the entry hole to look tidy. I have rigid single cable grommets elsewhere in the house as part of the original olde Sky install but I need something so I don't have to take the connectors off the cable as I will only mess that up.

This would probably do the job, but you might need to use a bit of silicon for the final seal as it will be a bit bigger than shotgun cable.

      Re: Grommet Question

Received the grommets in the post and the hole isn't big enough to allow the cable with connector attached to pass through.

How easy is it to remove cable ends and get them back on? Need any specific tools to make up cables?

The end just screws off, there is no need for special tool. This PDF gives a good explanation.

It depends how the plugs are attached, screw on easy crimped very difficult.

If the plastic the grommet is made from isn't too brittle wouldn't it be easier, with a junior hacksaw, to cut a slit half way through the shortest distance to the side of the hole and prise the cut open to allow the grommet to be slipped over the cable?

      Re: Grommet Question

The ends are definitely compressed, I think 'modifying the grommet is a good way to go Thanks to all.
