Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate
OK, so what are the advantages of fitting an XTE face plate rather than using the existing face-plate with a decent dongle ADSL splitter?
Apart from looking tidier?
Do ADSLNation claim that you will get better results? BTW. At the moment, I've got no extensions fitted just a new type phone socket with a decent ADSL filter attached.

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate
Personally I think it's worth if you have extensions as being filtered at the master face plate helps to keep out interference picked up along the cable (or at least in theory).
If your unsure just connect the modem directly to the test socket behind your faceplate, if it is no improvement then a filtered one probably won't help.

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate
i have extensions all over the place
Bt modified the internal wiring when i had isdn fitted as the main box at that time was in the front bedroom, they linked from that to a master box they fitted in the downstairs back room, i then have an extension from this box going to the front room where telephone and Sky box are
at least thats how i remember it.

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate
I can recommend the use of the ADSL Nation XTE-2005 faceplate. I installed one of these, then ran a 10mtr RJ11-RJ11 extension cable from it to my modem.
My speed went from 2900kbps approx with noise margin always dropping below 6db, to WAIT for it 5152kbps with a noise margin of 8.0db. My line attenuation is 57.0db, so you can see i am a fair way from the exchange.
I did some research and found my line would only support up to 4500kbps with the distance from the exchange.

P.S. I had all sorts of problems with disconnects, slow speeds etc. Thanks again for the information this site provides.

Didnt make any difference to my attenuation to be honest...Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate
Filters or filtered faceplates will not make any difference to the line attenuation that is dependent on the resistance of the line from the exchange to the house. Where a better filter makes a difference is in the SNR margin and a filtered faceplate further improves on this if you have extensions by isolating them and preventing them causing further interference to the ADSL signal.
Seeing as how you have no extensions then you will see little improvement especially if you already use an XF-1e filter the results will be exactly the same. Faceplates are primarily recommended to people who have extension wiring in place.adslnation
