Yes there should be only two wires (one each on A and B).

So long as you have a filter plugged directly into the master, then you have it as good as you can get for now.
The faceplate filter should improve things.

All faceplate filters are better than the "soap on a rope" type, so yes it should provide you with better line performance.

      Re: Faceplate Info.

      ADSL Nation,

What about the filter feature of the iPlate ? Is that included in the XTE-2005 ?
If not can i use the XTE-2005 in conjunction with the iPlate and will that (as i assume) produce the best combination because you have two types of filtering:
      a) Bell wire / electrical interfeence i.e. iPlate
      b) Extension wire / resistance and interfence i.e. XTE-2005

      ?

      Thanks for your help

The I-Plate funtions are also in the XTE-2005. The Xte-2005 will not physicaly fit the BT I-Plate

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate

As Brian has said there is no need to fit an ADSL faceplate AND an I Plate, some faceplates won't physically fit anyway. Fit a good quality BT approved faceplate like the one made by Pressac (NTE2000/ 2005) and you won't go far wrong. Either that or replace the front of the NTE5 with the latest spec with bell wire filter-does the exact same job as the I Plate without making the socket stick out even more. Note that not all NTE's have the bell wire filter!

Re: ADSL Nation NTE-2005 Master face plate

Well, yesterday, following advice from this forum i decided to buy the XTE-2005 Master Faceplate from ADSL Nation at 10.99. It arrived this morning and i've just fitted it. Can't believe how easy it was to fit. Anyway, here are my stats before and after fittiing it.

      3/8/09
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11257 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 17.1 db
Noise Margin 5.6 db 10.5 db

      8/5/09---Post Firmware Upgrade
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11846 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 17.1 db
Noise Margin 4.4 db 11.0 db

      9/5/09---1st result since fitting XTE-2005
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15837 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.5 db 17.2 db
Noise Margin 7.0 db 11.0 db

I'm no expert at this but you can clearly see the increase in download speed. I'd be grateful for your opinion with the rest of the stats guys. I guess i'm gonna have to keep an eye on the stats over the next couple of weeks to get a better picture of things but right now i'm happy with the initial result. Thanks Skyuser for pointing me in the right direction.

Apart from the slightly low upload speed that is pretty good. When DLM runs on your line it will increase it. It may reduce your download speed but if it overdoes it, you can have it fixed by manual configuration.

Every one with broadband and phone extensions should have a filtered faceplate, you have just proved it.

Mine doesn't make the slightest difference I'm afraid, the stats I've got from my extensions have always been as good as the test socket and the faceplate hasn't done anything to improve it.
