upgrading old installation
I have an original sky box with standard package and sky movies . I have bought a sky HD + Box to try and get a better picture as I want digital signals and not analogue. I am not interested in the sky + just the HD and a better quality of picture generally . Can I just hook up to my existing dish ? Can I just put my original sky card into the new HD+ box . Is there anything else I need to do ?? .
Thanks
George

Re: upgrading old installation
A HD box really needs two inputs from the dish, however;
1) Unplug the old box and take the viewing card out and take a note of the number on it
2) Plug the new box in and then put the viewing card in
3) Ring Sky and pair the card to the new box using the number from 1)
4) You will need to put the HD box into single feed mode, not sure how you do that though, ask Sky when you ring them (or do a search on here)~ Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience ~

Sky turned off the analogue signal many many years ago so you already have digital. HD will give you a better picture quality on a large screen TV (37" or bigger) provided you use a suitable connection such as HDMI. If you continue using SCART then you will receive the lower definition SD that the original box gave you and HD will offer no advantage.
Newsreader is quite correct on (i) you need a twin outlet LNB to have the full functionality of the Sky+ box (record whilst watching another channel, indeed you can record two channels whilst watching a third programme you recorded previously) (ii) you need to ask Sky to pair the card with the Sky+ box and make sure they enable HD.
