      Faceplate wiring doesn't work

So I bought this faceplate from Amazon, and after a week of missing the postman's doorbell rings, I finally got a hold of it. I also got myself a Krohn tool and when I tried to wire up the blue\white wire on #2 and the white/blue wire on #5, the phone socket will work, but the ADSL socket doesn't. The faceplate has a configuration of 2, 3, 4, 5, A and B for the wires.

I'm gonna give bullet points as putting all of these in a paragraph will hurt your eyes.

      - The faceplate works fine when I don't do any re-wiring. Just screw the faceplate on, plug in the cables and it works fine and dandy. I have noticed an improvement with speed. Had a little case of "faster wireless, slower Ethernet" but got that sorted, and the first time I tested the speed, I had a whopping 1000ms ping.

      - When I try to wire the blue and white cables on the standard faceplate (the default one), it works fine

      - I've tried both a) B/W on 2, W/B on 5 b) same as setup A + the green wires on both A and B. Never considered punching down the orange wires

      - Oddly, whilst the ADSL socket doesn't work, I can get an Internet connection if I use a microfilter on the phone socket. So I can get a connection if I use a filter, on a filter? 0_o

Am I doing something wrong? Am I right to plug in the blue/white cable on #2 and the white/blue on #5? Is it necessary to punch down the green and orange cables?

I'm assuming the fault is in the wiring as the faceplate works fine when I don't do any re-wiring. Also, there wasn't any wires attached on the default faceplate, just the blue wires on the master socket.

      Please help.

      Thanks

Do you have any extensions as what you describe sounds like you are terminating the incoming line to the faceplate!

No extensions. That's the only phone socket in the house.

You should be connecting the blue/white and the white/blue to the back of the main box, not the faceplate, unless I have misunderstood you.

      Re: Faceplate wiring doesn't work

It was already like that before I got the faceplate. So I was actually trying to destroy my connection? I don't need to connect anything to the connectors on the back of the faceplate?

No - not unless you are running to an extension etc - As you only have the one socket, then as per my picture. Plug the faceplate back in and then connect.
