i need help finding this part

a few days ago one of my radiators started to leak and it got my phone socket wet so i lost my use of broadband and the phone until i replaced the whole socket, but it also corroded this part really badly

for now i have moved my router but i don't like where it is (it looks out of place) and i don't want to buy new cabling causes this one has been sunk under the carpet and i don't want the hassle of ripping up the carpet to lay it all again.

could some one please tell me where i can buy one of these, i have been all over my local area. the guy at radioshack didn't even have a clue. please help

B&Q probably, it looks like a 2 way splitter?

ie it makes one socket into 2

Re: i need help finding this part

thats what i thought at first but if you look at the first pic the wiring from the phone line just goes into them two sockets at the front.

two orange and white on the right and two blue and white on the left. well that's the way I'm remembering it.

it's almost as if this is a micro-filter and phone jack in one with a dual phone line splitter built in.

Can you take a picture of the main socket - I can't get my head around this.

Was this plugged into the main socket and then had a wire going to another socket in the house?

So the phone line from Sky Box and modem is one cable with 4 wires in?

It is not a filter it is simply a splitter with the Sky modem wired in directly. If you must have your Sky box connected to the phone then get one of these RJ11 BT Telephone Plug 10m Lead For Dialup Modem: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories and one of these if you need to plug a phone into the same socket. BT Telephone Socket Doubler/Splitter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

When you fit these they must be plugged into an ADSL filter or your broadband will be badly effected.
BT ADSL Broadband Microfilter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Re: i need help finding this part

well my mistake, just got home and now i 'm having a thorough look.....

i have found that i have this from the back of my sky box

(yes, that is another one of these parts)

but up until the water damage i never had a separate microfilter

      this is how it was

and this is a little vid of what this magic box looks like

Re: i need help finding this part

It looks like some kind of extension lead to me.

What you could try, is get a new socket and box and fit it on the end of the wire where the left magical box is on your diagram, then plug the splitter from the sky box and router into that.

Then wire up the wire where the right hand magical box is into the back of the master socket.

However, if the master socket is not a filtered one, then it may also be an idea to replace the master socket with one of those, and then cable the right hand magical box into that.

How flimsy is the cable between the magical boxes?

Re: i need help finding this part

the cable is spot on, like i said earlier it's been safe under the carpet, and i just want an easy life :P
i'd rather find a way to do this that doesn't involve tearing the carpet up.
