Thanks for your time Scubbie, I presume it is looking like one of these to be the smartest option, the only way this is going to be faster than connecting my router to my front rooms extension though is if I am able to plug and keep my gateway in the test socket?

RUNITDIRECT, I do in deed have another extension, in the kitchen. This runs at similar speeds to the front rooms socket. Taking the face plate off the test socket in the bedroom disabled both the front rooms connectivity and the newly found terminal in the kitchen.

I took a closer picture of the master socket theres a few disconnected wires, also some of the wires that come out of the grey sheathing, disappear straight into the wall cavity

      Thanks both for your time
PS this is a brand new flat with no previous installations.

Do the gel crimps simply extend the blue pair coming out from the wall? That is what it looks like yet they seem easily long enough, wonder if the cable in the wall is stranded rather than solid cable, can you strip back some insulation from a spare to check? If all extensions go dead with the test socket revealed then everything is wired as it should be. Personally I would plug the router into the master via a filtered faceplate & connect the router to a switch via Ethernet cable, that removes all internal cabling from the equation. It doesn't make sense that the extension is giving better speeds than the master faceplate unless the actual socket on the faceplate is bad (or something is not quite right on the wiring somewhere).

Thank you for your Hasty reply RUNITDIRECT, as I said I have no idea how these are wired throughout a house, but I was pretty sure the master face plate being slower than an extension did not make sense, which filtered face plate should I purchase from you? Ill give that a go and see if it helps.
PS what are the drawbacks of leaving my gateway plugged into the test socket?

The best faceplate(but the most expensive!) is the new VDSL/ADSL one, we've had customers report a speed increase over the older(NTE2000/NTE2005) versions. The second best would be the NTE2005. The only disadvantage using the test socket is your extensions no longer work. If you use Sky interactive services these require the phone line.

Unless you can plug the faceplate into the filter, all your other extensions will be dead.
