Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

Typically these faceplates are supplied at the point of installation of a Fibre product.

Is there any evidence to suggest that like the ADSL filters they can wear out over a period of time?

Anything electronic can wear out over time. I've not checked the schematic but assuming they do not have transistors(previous versions did not) they are more likely to last longer.

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

These are just like the old bt faceplates
but are a cleaner design over one pcb instead of
two jumpered together so in theory may give a very slightly better
      margin

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

The whole design is new, it isn't just a repackaged NTE2000. They are the ONLY approved vDSL faceplate & are also backwards compatible. Sadly the cost will be high for a year or so yet as the tooling costs are recouped but we expect after 2 years for them to be the same price as the NTE2000/NTE2005 variants.

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

      Im tempted to get one
Im soldered directly on the secondary pcb of my nte2000
for the cleanest signal with minimal joints

but unsure if its worth the hastle of of desoldering and re-soldering

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

I have an ADSL nation filtered faceplate and have done since 2007..... Ive considered getting a newer version but not sure if it would be worth it.... thoughts?

As stated, do these things degrade over time and is it noticeable?

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

I'm afraid the only way to find out would be to try it! We've not done any tests on an ADSL line so we can't say whether they would improve on what is already out there. The manufacturer is selling them as a premium product (& mainly for vDSL), they do not degrade over time, like anything electronic they can fail in service. This is usually down to a line spike mind! We've got NTE2000's happily still in service from 2002!

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

Sorry if I have lead people on the wrong path a little. I know from personal experience and from posts on this forum that the microfilters supplied with the routers do degrade over a period of time.

The filtered faceplates have a better lifespan, but can degrade over a longer period.

I guess it would be difficult to predict a lifespan of something like this vDSL faceplate as it is new. Fibre products have been available in the UK for a few years now and when installed, customers have been supplied new faceplates.

Since this is compatible with both vDSL & ADSL, then perhaps it would be a good option for those who wish to purchase an ADSL faceplate now, but intend to get a Fibre connection at a later stage.

These faceplates would also be a suitable replacement for anyone who already has a vDSL faceplate that has become damaged.

If I am correct by looking at the photos, then I note that the faceplate makes use of the existing simple NTE5 faceplate. This would make things a lot easier for many people as they will no longer need to purchase an IDC tool to move any extension wires to the new faceplate.

For those who do not have an IDC tool, but do have extensions wired into the existing faceplate, then this would certainly be a good choice at the current price.

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

I think the most common cause of any degradation would be caused by bad solder joints. Other faceplates such as the XTE2005 have active components (transistors) which are much more likely to fail over time.

No rewiring is required with this faceplate as the consumer side wiring stays attached to the original NTE5 lower faceplate.

Note that although this faceplate is vDSL it is not a fibre faceplate, BT are trialing a fibre faceplate (FTTP).
