Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

I currently have a problem with intermittent broadband, so Sky sent Openreach out to have a look. Then have replace my Master socket and fitted the vSDL faceplate.
The modem connector is RJ11 which now plugs into a the RJ45 socket. Are there likely to be any future registration problems?

The best feature IMHO is that if you have the standard faceplate with wired extensions, the VSDL plate can simply slide into place with no rewiring needed.

PS Didn't fix my problem Sky sending out a new Wireless N router, don't think thats the problem but not complaining.

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

All the BT faceplates have had RJ45 sockets on them since day 1, no issues at all. Some OR engineers are fitting the VDSL faceplate as some kind of magic bullet fix for all problems!!

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

I'm using one of these VDSL face plates (as supplied by run-IT-direct) to filter my Sky ADSL and overall I'm fairly happy with it. I'm also looking forward to fttc broadband so it seemed like a good idea (I can get it, just waiting for Sky fibre).

Having bought a new build house a couple of years ago I have an external NTE from which all of the internal wiring daisy chains. I know that when I get fibre BTO would need to fit a new master inside the house but as I wanted a flush mounted socket I decided to fit one myself and fit this faceplate while I was at it. The ADSL is now filtered at this faceplate so no more ugly microfilters everywhere.

Since installing this faceplate I've not seen much of a change in my broadband line quality or connection speed but I wasn't really expecting that anyway; the important thing for me is that it works and the broadband is filtered centrally.

Here are some of the line stats from the router:

      Before VDSL faceplate:
Connection speed: 3071kbps Down, 796kbps Up
Line attenuation: 57.0 db Down, 27.4 db Up
Noise margin: 7.2 db Down, 8.0 db Up

      Today with VDSL faceplate:
Connection speed: 3071kbps Down, 796kbps Up
Line attenuation: 56.5 db Down, 27.2 db Up
Noise margin: 6.8 db Down, 10.5 db Up

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

      Hi,

I had the SKY Fibre installed at the end of April. BTO Engineer installed the new faceplate, etc.

The faceplate has recently failed just two months in. I've got not dial tone and unable to make or receive calls. I do still have broadband connection. When I remove the faceplate and connect directly to the master test socket, I can make & receive calls, hence my conclusion that it's the faceplate that's failed.

I reported it to SKY who stated these are only covered for 30 days and I would be liable for the cost of replacement. I am waiting for the BT engineer to come out to have this resolved

Is there any evidence to suggest that like the ADSL filters they can wear out over a period of time?

Ouch! That is a short time frame.

A 30 day warranty is mighty short though.

I trust that you do not get charged for the call out as I would expect that you may well be covered under one or two laws that stipulate that it should last for a "reasonable period". I personally would expect that "reasonable period" to be a year or two.

What may complicate it is that you weren't actually 'sold' the filtered faceplate, but you did purchase SFU and were supplied the faceplate as a part of that product.

Based on this I personally would challenge ANY charge that Sky or BTO attempts to pass on to you for the failure of the filtered faceplate.

Re: New BT vDSL faceplate available!

We've had a few customers that have replaced their BT faceplates over the past couple of weeks due to storm damage. Obviously this is not covered by warranty but it should last much longer than 30 days in normal circumstances!!! As above, pretty sure consumer law will be on your side with that one!!

The damage to a faceplate caused by the floods should be covered through any Insurance claim (I think it would be Buildings Insurance as it is a fixture).

Electronic items that fail due to manufacturer defects would not be covered by your Buildings or Home Insurance, unless you have a particularly good policy.
