wi-fi bridge
hi -
I'm thinking about getting a WI-FI bridge as the price seems much better than Skys offering(£20 as opposed to £60)
How can I find out whether the USB port is switched on or powered before I commit to buying the product?
How has anyone else got on with this solution?
Did you need to buy a seperate power unit... and if so from where and how much?
Thanks alll
(Ive already learned loads from this forum!!!)

Re: wi-fi bridge
The USB ports on the Sky+ HD STBs used to be enabled sufficiently to produce power. Unfortunately this has been turned off.
However all is not lost!
Last year Maplin were selling extension leads with built in USB ports. Sadly that product stopped being supplied, but there are others available.
Whilst shopping in ASDA today I noticed an expansion socket with 3 electrical sockets & 2 USB ports for sale. I have just been looking at their on-line site and I couldn't find it listed.
I would hope that others have similar products and would highly recommend searching around. One such product:
4 way surge extension lead with 4 USB Brennenstuhl 1153543334
What I saw at ASDA was considerably cheaper though.
Another idea:
Compact Twin USB Power Supply : USB Power Supplies : Maplin Electronics
PlusNet Fibre since Jan 2021
Previously Sky Fibre & Sky BB since 2010.

Re: wi-fi bridge
Do you have a USB socket on your TV? Most newer sets have at least one..

Re: wi-fi bridge
Alternatively if you have an iPod AC charger you could use that to power the USB. It's a much cheaper solution which I have used myself successfully. Either one of these should power the bridge fine

Re: wi-fi bridge
I am not sure what you are trying to do as I do not have Sky, only Sky broadband.
But I do have a Wifi-Bridge on my TV that I use to connect to DVD rental and LAN network.
It is powered via the TV USB port but can take a mains power adaptor.
