Master Socket Issues - Test Socket works

Quick question, hoping someone here can help...

Phoned Sky with a few Broadband issues which have recently cropped up (Very intermittent connection), and tried connecting the line to the Test port in the Master Socket, which seems to have improved things no end.

So...looks like I need to change the Master Socket, but it sounds like I need to get someone in to do this if I don't want to be in breach of the Ts and Cs - will Sky do this, or does it need to be BT (not my provider for anything)?

      Thanks.

If it is an NTE5 socket, then rather than spending money on a new faceplate, might I suggest fitting a filtered faceplate?

There is nothing against them in Sky's T&Cs.

Your line provider is responsible for the line up to your test socket. Your master socket is internal and therefore your responsibility.

You can replace the faceplate quite cheaply yourself, and are probably better to buy a prefiltered one.

OK, so it's just a case of replacing the current faceplate with a new filtered faceplate as above (Thanks Scubbie) with the same wiring as in the current faceplate (Blue2, Red3, White5)?

      Cheers

If you are looking to reconnect your internal extensions, then pick yourself up an IDC tool as well since you will more than likely require this for the new faceplate.

You can purchase these from places like Maplin. As always there are others available to perform the same task.

If you have enough flex at the socket, it might be easier to fit a plug on the end of the cable and put it into the telephone socket. Tools and plugs are also available at places like Maplin.

Darn: Perhaps I should be getting some shares in Maplin?

      IDC tool

      ADSL faceplate

      Or cheaper alternative

Wire like for like as to what you have now, only need to worry about 2, 3 & 5.

Newsflash: Maplin shares fall by 50%

Seriously, thanks RunItDirect. I am aware that different faceplates have different connectors on the rear. Thinking about it I suspect that the OP may not be aware though.
