They said the speeds have dropped at the exchange to 3.8meg
Unless the exchange is experiencing problems, I would say that is a fob off.

What are your stats like now that they have reconfigured?

There is something wrong with your line. Your CRC errors are very high but with no uptime shown it is difficult to say how bad they are, but it does not look good. Could you power off your router for a few minutes, to clear the existing stats. Plug it back in and take your stats to check that you are starting with a clean slate, then take them again after an hour and check your error count.

      Re: Speed,Master Socket,Faceplate Help

That is a lot of errors for an uptime of just over an hour. Nearly 5 million FEC errors, although these are corrected errors, is an awful lot. Together with your CRC count of over 56 thousand they indicate something is seriously wrong with your line or the exchange equipment. I don't know why all your error seconds are on the upstream side, but with an error almost every second you are connected, that can't be good either. I think all you can do is report this to O2 and hope they can do something about it. Sorry I can't be of more help, but it is down to your ISP to get it fixed..

      Re: Speed,Master Socket,Faceplate Help

I've just phoned o2 - they didn't undertand about crc/fec errors ! they thought/ presumed i was getting a error meassage flashing up on the screen.
When I said i phoned last week about speeds and how it had dropped since christmas, they said they have a traffic management at this time of the evening etc I tried to tell them that I'm not having a problem with web pages or watchin youtube etc at this moment in time.
He said he'll increase my speeds by reconfiguring the port at the exchange and raising my noise margins . Which is what the guy must of done on Friday.
The guy was more interested in asking me about the night life in Liverpool and talking about his hangover from last night
I might be better sending a email
      Thanks Again for helping

Those errors are still far, far too high.

I haven't read the thread through, but assuming all is well internally, you need to push o2 to book an Openreach SFI visit.

      Re: Speed,Master Socket,Faceplate Help

He has dropped your noise margin, increased your speed and made things worse. Your errors are now way up, even with a higher speed, I would not be surprised if you actual throughput has been reduced. I thought O2 help was better than that.

Would fitting a new Master Socket & Faceplate help with these errors ?
It is difficult to say, the filtered plate you have is an old one so it might be having a bad effect. If you are up for it, what you can try is removing the filtered faceplate and replace it with a standard one, you could even remove one from one of your extensions. Plug in a filter and check the stats, again over a 1 hour period. If there is a marked improvement in your errors, then it would be worth replacing it with an NTE5 and new filtered faceplate.

I am not familiar with the wiring layout on this type of faceplate, but it may be possible to simple remove the wires from the ADSL side and put them on the phone side, after removing the wires that are there at the moment. A photo of the inside wiring would help..

Having had another look at your photo it looks like this could be an filtered extension socket similar to this one from ADSLNation http://www.adslnation.com/downloads/docs/XTF_Guide.pdf are you sure that it is the Master socket? -

      Re: Speed,Master Socket,Faceplate Help

I'm sure it is the master socket as on the outside of the wall is the grey BT plastic pipe - my house is a 10 year old new build.
The picture in my 1st post is just a borrwed pic from the net but the same type of socket - I've just took my own pics below

I don't think it is a "Filtered Faceplate" though
      As I've said I've 3 wire's going to this sockets 2 & 5
1 is the main BT line
2 is a extension going upstairs to the bedroom with nothing connected
3 goes to a extension which powers my router and sky box - I've now unplugged the sky box.
Below are some picture of inside the socket and my router stats since unplugging the sky box.

      Thanks Again
