It may have nothing to do with it, but the white wire does not seem to be fully seated in the contact. If you don't have the proper tool, use the edge of a thin credit card to push it fully down.

      Re: Poor SNR

Will do so when I get home, but surely if the contact wasn't good then I wouldn't get any ADSL

Do router SNR and attenuation stats update immediately?

      Re: Poor SNR

If it is making poor contact it may still work but at reduced efficiency, much like a poor joint causing a fault on the line.

The attenuation and noise should change immediately, if this was the problem. If the speed is capped it will not change until Sky reset the line.

That external box doesn't look too clever & is very close to the dish i assume has just been fitted?........

The dish was fitted 2 weeks back by a sky engineer who came late and tried to rush install. I haven't checked to see whether the dish is still there or whether the 2nd engineer took it back after he installed another one on the roof.

What looks dodgy about the external junction box?

      Re: Poor SNR

It looks like the junction box has been pushed out of the way to accommodate the Dish.

      Re: Poor SNR

Do you guys reckon it's worth getting a ladder myself and taking a look at the box or should I ask sky to remove the dish and fix it in the process?

I could call Bt in to do the job but obv wanted to avoid the job and they wouldn't like what I've been doing internally.

      Perhaps a non Bt engineer??

      Re: Poor SNR

BT are only interested in the line up to your master socket. With so many lines connected to that junction box I would advise you not to touch it. The Sky installer who fitted the dish should remove it, but it may be better if you got BT out first so they can see what has happened. Tell them you think the junction box has been moved by the Sky installer and it does not look right. There should be no need for BT to even enter your house.

      Re: Poor SNR

I'll give them a call and if they send an engineer over I will put the original stuff back in place.

If they dig deeper and don't like the way I've wired up the master socket, I'll just say I've never looked inside it.

Ultimately Sky's speed estimator said I should get 10-20mbit and before I signed up with them, the technical team told me that if I'm not at least achieving 10mbit, they will most likely ask an openreach engineer to see what is wrong.
