Extension phone socket problem
Recently had Sky HD multiroom installed and discovered that my telephone extension socket apparently isnt working. I took a look at the wiring between the master socket and the extension socket: the master socket has blue/white (2), orange (3) and white/blue (5). The extension socket has blue/white (2) and white/blue (5). Initially I got a dialtone on the phone, but after about 5 seconds it went dead. Is it wired correctly? Can anyone tell me what I need to do to fix the problem please?

Re: Extension phone socket problem
You can try pulling out the orange wire from the master socket and see if it fixes it. Otherwise it's wired correctly from what your saying!
If that doesnt fix it then the cable itself which goes from the master socket to the extension may have a break in it.

Re: Extension phone socket problem
You only need 2 and 5 connected.
Disconnect the cables and reconnect and see if that works, if not change the pairs over at both ends to the orange pair just in case there's a break in the blues.
If both attempts fail then change the cable.

Re: Extension phone socket problem
Disconnected the orange wire but no difference. The telephone cable itself is new and is one length (albeit quite long). I read somewhere that it musn''t be longer than 50m, but I'm fairly sure it isn't that long! However, it does go up through to the loft space and back down the exterior wall.

Re: Extension phone socket problem
Is this the extension Sky supplied or a hard wired one? If you did get dial tone then the wiring is correct, it will more likely be a bad connection on the snap down connector/IDC block. Make sure you are using an IDC tool if it is IDC as using a screwdriver will make the problem worse!
