      bit pricey though !

      4.50 m high speed RJ11 network cable, male / male - comet-accessories

the code is slightly different thought it is cc3011aes15 not cc3011aed15

is it the same one ? been on belkin website and they only have cc3011aed15 listed in their products

The Maplin price maybe quite high but it's unfair to compare to eBay sellers UNLESS a proper registered business seller. Many individuals do not pay tax etc so can easily undercut the bonifide traders. Cheapest isn't always best either which you usually find out when things go wrong.

Basically yes. In reality the distances you talking about are unlikely to make any difference unless the environment is VERY noisy(electrically).

      Re: newbie cable query

You don't want a router placed too close to a radiator. Heat is their worst enemy.

The cable you have is fine, your main problem is going to be the package you are on. There is not one good recent report on the forum for Connect. Get your friend who lives down the road to do a speedtest between 5 and 11, if he gets a good speed I, and many others will be very surprised. There are many who have not had broadband before who are happy with their speed, not realising what it should really be. If you are used to dial up and get 512kb on broadband, it seems lightning fast, but it is not by modern standards.

      Re: newbie cable query

As you are on a re-badged BT product the most accurate speed test is the Official BT Performance tester. You will find details on how to access it here-
      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-b...ect-users.html

There is a fair bit of info there for a Connect user.

Apart from that, don't go past the http://www.skyuser.co.uk/speedtester/ it is not as 'pretty' as some others, but it is fairly accurate.

      Re: newbie cable query

ill have to give it a go for a bit as ive still got my 30 days cooling off

but i dont have much choice of ISP's round my village. Not going with BT as had a row with them about their crap 24 a month total broadband package I had at my old house a couple of years ago. Orange is crap according to my GF's dad and its 20 a month and the Post office is dire too.

Every ISP site i go to and put my phone number in their "check availablitity" box comes back with "sorry, we can only offer you 512kps", even idnet

until until they free up our exchange then its all going to be pretty bad

      Re: newbie cable query

Chances are, 512kbps will be faster that wat you will get during the peak periods with Sky.

All the ISP's you have tried will be using the same BT equipment at the exchange so will all give around the same connection speed so I wouldn't worry too much, the problem is that Sky Connect is way over capacity and badly managed.

Try Plusnet, they do a much better job and you will get the same connection speed as you can on Sky Connect.
