My Stats - Would a new MasterBox and a filtered faceplace help?

Here are my current line stats:

Connection Speed 14343 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 16.8 db
Noise Margin 6.6 db 15.0 db
I have a very, very old master socket - the non split non NTE-5 style with one extension coming of it.

Is this sync speed normal for my line stats or could it be better?

I have tried the ringwire trick but it doesn't help me, so I was thinking of purchasing a NTE5 masterbox and replacing the old master socket myself? Will it help me?

      Thanks

It's hard to say, but as it is only a few quid it is worth doing it anyway as it is useful to have a test socket.

Agreed ^^ for the money, it is worth fitting one and using a filtered faceplate, that way you can be sure that everything you can do to improve things from your end is done.

I am pretty much inclined to give it a shot, although I heard its illegal to tamper with the master box? I'm sure anyway that no BT engineer would ever see it but I'm just wondering if I should do it lol. I'm quite handy too.

It is not a criminal act although it does breach BT T&C's. It is a very simple job and nobody will think twice about it if you do it correctly. Many do.

Exactly! A BT engineer (Openreach) will not give two hoots! Always worth having an NTE5 with faceplate for the reasons others have stated (test socket, best setup you can have from your end).

Re: My Stats - Would a new MasterBox and a filtered faceplace help?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has any good guides to fitting one of these or is it just as simple as:

from the main incoming pair connect to A & B

extension runs from 2 & 5 on the faceplate itself

      sound good?

also may be a silly question but is there any risk of get a electric shock or anything when handling the bt pair?

It's as simple as that. You can get a shock if someone calls you when touching the A & B pair but it's only small!

Does it matter if the orange/white are connected to either A or B in any order? Or is it strictly orange - b
      white - a
