First of all congrats on the new flat and I hope you will be happy there. As to the socket, I would not worry too much, its very likely that someone attached the ring line in error to the original socket, but just have a good look round and ensure you have no extension sockets (Im sure you have)
When you get the filter faceplate (and if you have not already ordered one I'll send you one as a moving in pressy) check the NTE master and you will find just the line pair connected.

seriously, this is the ONLY socket...it had/has an extension lead running from it (plug in jobby) to the lounge so the previous tennants could have the phone in the lounge...
here's a pic (generic web pic) of the back of the one that was there...
This has now been replaced with an NTE5 and (thanks Brian) I've already got an NTE2000 ready to go on it, plus a 1m RJ45 to RJ11 cable to run the router off - might need a new power socket though as the one we got is opposite the socket and we don't want power cables running across the hall...-------------------------------------------
