      help needed for extension wiring

I have already installed a new faceplate and an extension just for my router which is in a different room from the faceplate.

Can I connect a telephone extension directly to the adsl extension?

The adsl extension has 2 wires connected to 5 & 4.
The telephone extension has 6 connections numbered 1 to 6.

So can I connect and if so, how?

You don't say what sort of replacement faceplate you have fitted or what your extension face plate is.

Basically you only need to wire to pins 2 and 5 to connect to your extension. If its an ASDL nation faceplate then you would use pins A and B.
If you intend to use a phone then it needs a filter.

Re: help needed for extension wiring

I have a NTE2000 faceplate in living room.

In computer room, I have a NTE2000 ADSL extension, cable runs to living room and is plugged into adsl socket of faceplate.

Does it matter which wire from the extension I am fitting goes to either 4 or 5 inside the adsl extension?

Blue to 4, White/Blue to 5. Thats what it says in the instruction leaflet.

      It doesn't really matter though.

Re: help needed for extension wiring

I am not sure if you have understood my question.

I already have a working adsl extension working.

Can I run a cable from back of adsl extension box and connect to a telephone extension box, so I can have a phone next to my computer?

I already have wireless phones around the house, but I am loosing my hearing and it's 50/50 whether I can cope with them and I need to now use an amplified phone, hence the need for a telephone socket near my computer

Re: help needed for extension wiring

Connect the extension wires to the 2 and 5 terminals on the rear of the NTE2000 face plate and connect the same wires to the 2 and 5 terminals on the extension socket.
It would have been better to have had a NTE2005 faceplate on the master socket, this would have enabled you to hardwire the extension to your PC room to the A and B terminals on the rear. This might have been more efficient than a plug in.

The number 4 terminal is not used in domestic circuits.

Re: help needed for extension wiring

So I have to run another cable from the faceplate to a telephone extension box?

I cannot connect directly the to rear of the adsl extension box I already have fitted?

At the rear of the adsl extension box, there are only 3 x connectors.
4 & 5. The centre connection is not used and not numbered.

I am thinking it might be better to get myself a combined telephone and adsl extension box.

Re: help needed for extension wiring

Just so I have understood, you have a filter faceplate and an extension from it which you use for your router. You now wish to use the same extension for telephone and your router?
If this is correct then the easy way is to fit a combined router and and phone socket, like the ADSL Nation XTF-85.

Re: help needed for extension wiring

Righto, if you do get a XTF 85 then you swap the wires from your exsisting ADSL extension socket to the connections marked "Line" on the XTF 85.
