      What can I do?

I have bought a house which was a repo. On moving in there is no phone socket although I can see some sort of wire on the front Window Sill. Looking out this runs up to the top of the house (may go into the attic) and I assume this is for the phone socket.

As this is a bare wire what would I need to do to make this work as BT and Sky dont seem to want to know.

Would I need to chuck on a new master socket with a decent faceplate? The house is quite far from the exchange I think, or the exchange isnt very good so I can only have Sky Connect Broadband so whatever makes it faster is better!

How hard is it to extend the cable?

      Thanks

      Re: What can I do?

Apply for a telephone service from your chosen telephone provider (Sky or BT) and they will arange for a socket to be fitted, and maybe a new line as well if one is required.

Sorry, I did not notice you were on Connect. My advice is to find another ISP. Sky's Connect package is diabolical, just have a look at the other Connect threads on the forum. Get out before you are even connected and you will save yourself further pain.

I am pretty sure if you had taken your rental with BT, you would have been connected long ago.

      Re: What can I do?

The only thing that drew me in was the free line rental with SkyTalk when I ordered Sky+ HD.

I think I will have to try and find another ISP although I am thinking 3mb is going to be the maximum I can have.

Will be a killer moving from Virgin to that

      Re: What can I do?

Looks like I am going to need to redo this myself as BT want 190 quid just to even look at it!

So I will need a master box, faceplate and a tool?

      Re: What can I do?

Yep. NTE5, faceplate & IDC tool is all that is required. If you need to lengthen the cable then you will need CW1308 and a BT junction box.(type depending on what type of cable is there now).

      Re: What can I do?

I should add, if all you are doing is this one install then the cheap throw away tool will be fine, if there is likely to be any more terminations required then i'd invest in the pro tool, it isn't that expensive and will be your friend for life!!(when friends & family rope you into doing extensions etc!!!).

      Re: What can I do?

You will have to check whether you can get the cable into a position where the master socket can be fitted. If you can't you will have to fix a junction box, possibly externally and sufficient wire to get to your box position.

      Re: What can I do?

I had a look today, the wire goes from the pole to the top of my house by the gutter, it goes into a box and then from the box it goes down to the wall into a little box, in this box the cables are extended with those screw connectors (chocolate box is it?) and from there goes into the window sill leaving me 2 wires.

I have bought a junction box and more wire to extend it as well but the dodgy connectors concern me a little
