      XTE-2005 faceplate and ADSL Extensions.

Is there any benefit in fitting an XTE2005 faceplate if the ADSL equipment is going to be attached to an extension rather than connecting to the faceplate directly?

Re: XTE-2005 faceplate and ADSL Extensions.

      It depends on your setup.

If you have several extensions and you can arrange it so that one extension is dedicated to ADSL and the rest are connected to the filtered terminals on the XTE-2005 then yes there is an advantage.

If however you have no telephone equipment connected to the master socket and the only extension you have is the one with the modem on then there is no point in fitting a faceplate.

Re: XTE-2005 faceplate and ADSL Extensions.

I've got a newly installed NTE5a master with two extensions coming off it. For convenience reasons my router has to be connected via one of the extensions, there's no equipment connected to the master. In this scenario you're saying that there's no reason I should fit the XTE2005 faceplate?

I have a spare NTE5a, is it worth changing the extension socket for this and fitting the faceplate here or will I not get any benefit?

Re: XTE-2005 faceplate and ADSL Extensions.

As you have a second extension you want to filter at the master socket(assuming both extensions will wire back to the NTE5). This means that extension is seperated away from the ADSL signal (& no need to have a filter on that extension). For the ADSL extension you can use one of these if it is ONLY for ADSL :-

      NTE2000 ADSL Extension Kit, 10M

Or one of these if a telephone would be connected there too :-

BT Socket, Master, ADSL Filtered With RJ45/RJ11

Of course if you really wanted to you could fit the spare NTE5 and install a second filtered faceplate to that.

Have replied to your message btw.

Re: XTE-2005 faceplate and ADSL Extensions.

I take it that if I fit the XTE2005 to the master the extension for the ADSL extension should be wired to connecters A + B? If so, which way round?

Do I get any tangible benefit in terms of connection speed, less noise etc, or is this purely for the convenience of not having a filter on the spare extension?

You won't have an extension with the ring wire running along with the ADSL signal.

I had previously disconnected the ring wire.

Then fitting a faceplate will make no difference to connection speed, it will only negate the need for plug in filters.
