ADSL faceplate ok - now need to network!

I've moved my sky router close to the NTE5 master socket, and put in an ADSL faceplate. I go from 1.8 mbs synch to 2.8 mbs! Pretty good i feel. Gets me an extra 1 mb/s.

      BUT...

My master socket it upstairs, so now all my PC's can't connect to it because they are all wired together downstairs to a hub. I've looked for a WIFI dongle that will plug into my ethernet hub, but they are all USB

Does anyone have any idea how i can wirelessly connect my local LAN/hub to my sky router? I know i could try a mains lan adapter but they are a bit expensive, and the sky box already has wireless so it seems a shame not to use it.

      Thanks,
      Paul

Why not use an Ethernet cable?

I think you will find that the wireless is very poor, especially with the low basic speed you have. If you cannot use an ethernet cable, the best way is to use Homeplugs and connect one to your hub.

Use Homeplugs, as advised, the wireless will seriously reduce yor speeds and also ruin any gaming you may want to do.

What's wrong with using wireless? WiFi will handle 2.8mb just fine and OP never mentioned gaming.

How many devices do you connect to your hub? If it's just one PC then maybe a wireless adapter for that PC will be enough.

You could try replacing your hub with another wireless router or bridge. One of the two will do the job...not sure which one!

To do that you would have to flash the router with different firmware as the Sky firmware does not support repeating or bridging. It would also cost as much, if not more, than a Homeplug network, which would be faster and more stable.

PVM does say, 'all my PCs' so he/she must have more than one.

I'd 2nd the homeplugs recommendation. You can easily pick up a pair of 200 Mbps ones from ebay for around 40. Look for the Comtrend ones with the mains pass through socket.
