Re: Connecting Connect
It depends on what you are connecting. If you only have one PC to connect then a long RJ45 ethernet cable is probably the easiest. If you have more than one and/or maybe a games console, then the RJ11 cable would be the answer.

Re: Connecting Connect
OK so I've rewired the thing.
I've fitted a filtered faceplate, moved the router downstairs next to master socket.. Then I've run a 15mtr ethernet cable to my computer.
Here are my router stats
System Up Time 01:19:15
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 7172 10731 0 469 3124 01:11:40
LAN 10M/100M 11004 7352 0 2896 463 01:19:12
WLAN 11M/54M 173 0 0 9 0 01:19:04
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2848 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 57.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 12.4 db 20.0 db
I've only just finished the job so I cant really say if its faster.
Realistically what am I looking at

Re: Connecting Connect
As you are on Connect you may have to wait a few days to see any improvement. With an LLU connection it would be immediate. Give it another couple of days and if it does not improve, try rebooting your router, this will force a resync with the exchange and may lift your speed.
You should do an official BT test now, go to BT Performance Tester enter your phone number then your ADSL username. This will do an official BT speed test and show your present profile. Your ADSL username is <the LAN MAC number of your router, no colons, followed by> @skydsl This will show your present profile and throughput. Post the results.

Re: Connecting Connect
OK here are the test results from the BT Speedchecker done at 2000hrs
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 2624 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1120 kbps
Hope this makes sense and helps

Re: Connecting Connect
Try it again in a couple of days. If the sync/profile have not risen, switch the router off then back on to force a re-sync with the exchange. Getting your speed back up with Connect is a real pain.
One thing to remember is that none of this is Sky's fault, it is down to the technology used by BT.

Hi Mike as Isitme Tom says couple of days it usually take 72hrs there is no harm in doing a few Bt Test Result different times of the day to see if there are any variations.

Re: Connecting Connect
Mike
Try booting your PC every day to try and get a higher sync. Every time you reboot with Connect your line re-negotiates a new speed with the exchange. With a bit of luck you will sync a bit higher, when you do, don't boot again for 3 days to allow your profile to come up. Your noise margin shows you line would take a higher speed.
