Re: NTE5 installation and some cabling questions

If it is only 7 Ms why not replace the existing box with an NTE5a with a filtered faceplace. Then get a good quality RJ11 cable, 7-10Ms long and run this to your router position. This is probably the best/easiest way if you do not require a phone upstairs.

Yes, that too is an option. But, will the signal still be good by using a longish RJ11 cable, as opposed to an extension?

Worth checking the ADSL port on the router too-it maybe RJ45 in which case you could use a CAT5e patch lead (the ADSL port on the BT ADSL faceplates is RJ45 but will also accept RJ11).

The signal will be better if anything as you are doing away with another connection point.

Re: NTE5 installation and some cabling questions

So, if I did it this way, I suppose I would need decent RJ11 cabling. Any particular specification it should have?

      Thanks

I am sure run-IT-direct, Custom Leads would make up a cable for you.

      Thanks.
Just wondering, will a shielded one be good for this length, or is that irrelevent?

Re: NTE5 installation and some cabling questions

You don't need shielded, CW1308 terminated to RJ45 at one end and RJ11 at the other(unless router accepts RJ45 too??) would be ideal.

The router ADSL port will not take RJ45.
