cable for extension - beldon sheilded 2pr

      Hi

I have several rolls of cable laying around, each with varying lengths left.

I've only a short amount of cat5e left & wondered if anyone has any experience using sheilded beldon wire.

I'm on adsl mid package with sky, my master socket is at the bottom of the stairs & it is impractical / dangerous for the kids to leave the router wiring right at the bottom.

I saw somewhere tests had been done on various types of cable for adsl speeds, snr, attenuation etc, but didn't see sheilded beldon wire on there.

we live in a big estate with a school very close by, there is alot of noise from various sources & thought this maybe better than cat5e?

      thanks

you could try it but to be honest youll probably recieve the natural problems with all extension cabling your best bet is to get a BT engineer to install an extension socket to upstairs with the proper cabling if an engineer does it for you with the right cable youll be fine

Sorry but I disagree, a bt engineer will install an extension using normal telephone cable, not ideal for bb. I wired my own in cat5e, I dont know about the shielded beldon cable but would have thought it would be fine. We use it at work for BMS sensors etc which need a clean signal uneffected by surrounding noise. Try it.

Depends, if the Openreach engineer has the NTE2000 extenstion kit on his van then this is the same spec as CAT5 but minus a pair! Using shielded cable can cause more problems if the shield is not grounded at both ends. If you have extensions then you want an NTE5 with bell wire filter OR a filtered faceplate.
