You will find that the wire is quite stiff and depending on how long it has been there, it likes to coil itself up. Just be patent with it. If you dont have enough cable clips for thr re-route you can use some of the old ones if you are carefull

      An observation/question for Brian69
It was just a red and a blue wire going into 2 screw terminals
Not colours I recognise as standard telephone cabling.
The OP had the line reinstalled recently.
Would the BT/Openreach engineer just reuse any existing cabling even if it is not correct (sounds like alarm cable?) if fit for purpose or in an ideal world should it have been replaced?
Or is down to the workload on the day?

To the OP.I moved my figure of 8 line from downstairs to upstairs.
When it had to be replaced because of damage (insulation worn off where it passed through a tree) the BT engineer didn't quibble at all that it was upstairs and not downstairs where conventionally it would have been in the past.

      Re: Extension/Rerouting Question

      Hi Andy.
I avoided comment on the wire colours as the main concern was to check on the terminals used in Matts master. As they are screw ones and he will not be using the old internal stuff, I'll leave it at that.

      Hi,

Well my mate is on the way down now to give me a hand moving it. Sun is shining so hopefully no rain.

I hope the noise margin gets better for when i have the adsl2

      Re: Extension/Rerouting Question

      Hi,

      Well its moved!

      Didnt take that long.

The only problem is that im still having to connect by wifi as my network card doesnt work with Windows 7 Beta so i am going to put my XP SP2 back on now.

Its still showing 11db margin which is no improvement

I have only the external cable connected directly to the master socket and a micro filter plugged into the faceplate and then just the broadband router connected so theres no other wiring that could affect it.

Do you think i will still be able to take advantage of adsl2 with an attenuation of 24db and a noise margin of 11db approx?

They may not do it, but you could ask Sky to move you to ADSL2+ to see how your line reacts. You can tell them you would like to move to Max but want to be sure your line will handle it. As mentioned before, an attenuation of 27 should take ADSL2+ easily, giving you 16Mb.

      Re: Extension/Rerouting Question

      Hi,

TBH ive actually ordered O2 Pro and they have said i can get 19mb approx download speed.

Was going to go with Sky Max but had a big falling out (tried to pay bill and lad took payment 5 times causing me to go overdrawn) and fed up of em to be honest.
