I don't think the Openreach ones are screws, they have certainly phased out production of screw terminal ones now, use one of these in that case :-

BT 77B Junction Box (6 way screw connectors)

      Or ideally a BT 80A

Not on the website but in stock.

Does your master socket have screw terminals for the A and B terminals? I throught you would have moved it by now

      Hi Brian,

Didnt do it. Was still pi** wet through outside and didnt want to be up a ladder with a posibility of slipping.

Im going to unscrew the master socket in a min and have a look. I will post back shortly with my findings.

      Brian,

      It is screw terminals!

]t was just a red and a blue wire going into 2 screw terminals

Ive just plugged just the router into the test socket with no phone at all connected to see if it improves the noise margin and its showing the same speed but 8db margin instead of 7db (similar time last night it was 7db)

Jolly good. so you know what to do now, it should be an easy move. When you come to connect the external wire it does not matter which way round they go, just connect one wire to A and the other B.
Do not connect anything to the terminal marked E.

Dont worry it will work. The best way for you is not to cut the cable at all, but to disconnect it downstairs and unclip the cable from the wall, then you will have plenty of slack to re-direct it and cut off the excess in the bedroom
