      Low Broadband speed

Someone pointed out to me that the bt line on the front of my house and connects to the master socket is old and should be changed its the old figure 8 grey wire and has two connections to the master socket A-B no coloured wires,is this why i only get 4-4.5 mb on good weather day bad weather 2mb, on sky 8mb package, next door to me gets 16mb and is further away from the exchange

You could be right, However can you post your router stats and confirm whether or not you are connected wireless or ethernet.

Looks more like you Noise margins are a bit high man ,
Good attenuation sould be able to get a log better speed with that ,
So yes getting the wiring change could fix the issue how ever this will cost you man ,

Not if he can convince BT he had a voice problem.

If for instance he noticed that when it was windy and the line was moving about the line crackled a lot then he may be able to convince them to send an engineer around to change it.

Or if it snapped or was hanging by a thread one day (maybe it had been windy outside) then they may also change it.

If, following a router reboot the noise margin is that high, it's because the connection is capped. Getting the wiring changed isn't going to do a thing about that (though it would probably increase the potential sync speed).

      Re: Low Broadband speed

Just for clarity, you have two apparent problems:
      • you have a noisy line (which may or may not be down to your BT line)
      • your connection has been capped by Sky

Fixing the first will raise the potential speed of your connection (currently 3.5meg, could be the full Mid 8meg) , but only fixing the second will actually raise the speed. Just getting uncapped would probably give you most of the 8meg available on your package.
