LJU4/1A Help
Hi all,
I've just checked my master bt socket and its a LJU4/1a (although i only have one telephone line) it came as new with the house.
Would getting this changed to a newer master socket with filtered faceplate improve my line attenuation or sync speeds
Also to note as i couldnt fit a filtered faceplate on this socket so i fitted it instead to the one upstairs (the only other socket in the house) next to my pc would this cause any decrement in syncs speeds by doing this.
Many thanks and all the best.

Re: LJU4/1A Help
Give us a clue, what are your line att and sync speeds
It probably wont make any difference to line att as that is determined by line length from the exchange. It may improve your sync dependent on the state of your existing internal wiring and whether it can be improved.
Post the stats for a starter.Last edited by dholdi; 29-12-08 at 01:01 PM.

Re: LJU4/1A Help
If it was wired so that both sockets worked, then your line would have been doubled mastered, and a new NTE-5 master as well as a filter faceplate would be better, but lets see the stats

Re: LJU4/1A Help
Oooh really how much do you reckon and whats the best approach, ie tell BT fibs or just pay em directly to fit an NTE-5
Just been made redundant so the flows taken a hit recently.
Also i take it fitting the faceplate upstairs isnt hurting anything i know it improved once fitted so i guess not.

Re: LJU4/1A Help
Righto if funds are tight you can acheive much the same result as follows and for free!!.
(1) If both sockets are required, then connect the incomming line to 5 and 2 of circuit 1
Link 5 of circuit 1 to 5 of circuit 2. do the same with 2
Connect extension wiring to 5 and 2 of circuit 2
(2) Now remove the following components, just clip them off the board.
2SR1, 2R1, 2C1.

Re: LJU4/1A Help
Or, you could just replace that master socket with the new NTE5a yourself, if you think your upto it. It a lot cheaper then paying £100+ to BT to do it.
It would be illegal to do it, but BT will only find out if you mess up something really bad which effects someone else, not likely, and using the proper logo version, BT will be none the wiser. Had a look on ebay:
BT NTE5 A PHONE SOCKET MASTER .OPENREACH LATEST 1 OUT on eBay, also, Leads Cables, Home Phones, Mobile Home Phones (end time 02-Jan-09 10:18:05 GMT)
Prices have gone down a bit, they used to go for £12-£15. It is a matter of installing the backplate, then connecting the main AB wires to the back of the actual unit and screwing it on. Then wiring your extensions in to the faceplate and screwing everything together. If you want more information just ask.

Re: LJU4/1A Help
Good to see BT engineers are still selling stock that isn't theirs to sell
Rather makes a mockery of the fact that we can't legally obtain the Openreach logo'd versions but can sell you the exact same unit (made by the same factory in Nottingham!) minus the logo's! Good old BT..........
