      bt phone socket

hi all im in the process of moving my broadband and phone to sky from virgin and have ordered my bt line,it is being installed on friday,i was wondering do you think they would install my bt socket up in my bedroom as there is one already downstairs from a previous owner of the house,as it would save me having to get another socket installed in my bedroom for my broadband, or do bt just install where old socket was.

      Re: bt phone socket

It's normal to take the easy way out when fitting a new line. However if you move any furniture, and clear the way on the outside of your home, put the kettle on! and if you have a big dog, get it away for the time Openreach are there, I should think there will be no problem.
If for some reason Openreach will not do it, then ask them to fit an extension socket there.

      Re: bt phone socket

I think for the cost of getting a new line fitted it should be up to your self where the master socket goes ,

As long as its on a outside wall !
See the cable that goes from the pole to the drop point is toxic and so thay cant have loads it running around the house

      Re: bt phone socket

Just in case there is anybody with a long run of external wire fitted inside, it is not toxic in it's normal state, but it gives off nasty fumes when on fire. The max length inside is 3 metres. I have always throught that if your telephone cable is on fire, you have got bigger problems to worry about than fumes from the cable!!
