Question about pysical state of BT line.

I've noticed that my BT line is a old battered Grey line. Its roughly 3CM by 2CM. I've noticed its weathers towards the part were it gets looped round the telephone pole. Now i've had a look at the neighbors and everyone else on my street. They all have nice sturdy thick black wires going from there house to the pole. With some very nice insulation. I'm just left wandering why i am the only one on the street with a tatty old grey BT line? Is it anything worth complaining about?

      Cheers

You have dropwire no 22 this is very old. Dropwire has a lifetime of roughly 25 years BT or Openreach will not relace untill there is a fault. You could say you have a noisy line when it rains and the dropwire looks in poor condition worth a try.

Re: Question about pysical state of BT line.

      Hi Monday.
So long as the line is serviceable for voice (no pops crackles at the master socket) then Openreach are under no obligation to replace it for free. Now if your line were noisy and this was caused by your drop wire, then the whole length should be replaced with new twisted pair.
(this would be to bring the line up to standard, if your line were already twisted pair then a repair in it would be acceptable).
The point is that no matter how old a line is, if it is serviceable there is no obligation to replace it.
