      A cabling conundrum & rant

A Sky subscriber friend has just had a house built & finally managed to get a phone line installed.
On initial contact with BT, she was asked which package she required. "Just a phone line & phone number". Sounds simple but after over an hour on the mobile, she was told that if she wanted the phone line, she "would" take a package. So she now has a BT broadband package (up to 8Mb/s) & not Sky as she originally wanted. Either a very good saleslady or sharp practise?

To cap it all, when I went to set up the BT broadband, there is no NTE-5 Master, just a flush Master Socket fitted by the electrician which the BT engineer had happily connected to from the termination box outside.

Pulling the ring wires to the 2 other extensions improved the speed from 1.5 Mb/s to just under 5Mb/s.
The builder (responsible for the electrical installation) is having various problems & she has lost all faith in BT.
So next week I'll have to go back to fit an NTE-5 (ordered via Ebay with Openreach logo) & ADSL Nation filtered faceplate (purchased a while back as a spare)

Nothing in life is ever simple is it? I wonder if this is typical of BT or just an unfortunate "one off"
Either way she won't get her Sky broadband till her BT contract runs out in a years time.

Feel much better after my little rant,

      Regards,

      Max.

PS. After a hot bath & thinking about the above - s** it, BT can come back & fit an NTE5 Master Socket.

I would make a formal complaint in writing about the engineer. These days they are required to fit new NTE5's if they visit a property where there is no socket or the old style master socket.

Before you go any further, check to see if there is an external master fitted outside. If there is, the home owner will have been left a leaflet explaning this.

Truly amazing, I was looking at thread titles & thought "looks interesting?"
Only to find my own old rant
As a follow up (after a phone call) BT came back & fitted the NTE-5.
The lady is still stuck with BT broadband at a far greater cost than Sky.

      Regards all,

      Max.
