      If Openreach were to spot it (and it is a big if, there are not loads of Openreach "master socket police" going round) and the tech was in a snoty mood, then they would replace it for the real thing and you would find the cost on your next phone bill. It would be up to you to prove you did not fit it.

      If you make a nice job of fitting your master, it will sit there for years and Openreach will never know. (or care for that matter)

      There are plenty of the proper ones to choose from here on eBay and the sellers I checked have good feedback as well which would not be the case if they were suspect.

      They may well want to replace it but they have to inform you that you will be charged for it b4 they fit it.
