Creating a filtered an unfiltered extension on same line
Hello,
I have managed to create an ADSL extension and telephone extension at home but now it is time to do the mother-in laws.
So this is what I am thinking, tell me if it works:
Put an ADSL Nation filtered face plate on
Run one cat 5e cable from this but use the wires in the cat 5e cable to take a filtered and unfiltered line to an extension socket
Fit an extension socket that will have a phone and ADSL face plate (All in one) that will have no filters in it as the phone will be filtered at main socket.
will this work or will i get interference as the filtered and unfiltered are running down the same cable, all beit in separate wires?
Also anyone know where to get cheap cat5e? I reckon I will need quite a bit of it. Still to measure it though!
thanks------

Re: Creating a filtered an unfiltered extension on same line
Yes that will work, the isolation between the pairs will be fine. Don't forget to run a ring line as you will have no filter at the other end and your phone may not ring without it.
Suggested pairs.
DSL= Green pair.
Voice (filtered) = Blue pair.
Ring line = Orange with white rings.
If you are pushed for cost, then 3 pair CW1308 would work just as well and is a bit smaller.Last edited by Brian69; 09-03-08 at 10:40 AM.

Re: Creating a filtered an unfiltered extension on same line
Thanks Brian any idea where I can get this equipment at a decent price.
Clarity seem to do the extension box I need but it is £6.
ADSL main filter is always a little expensive so I know I have to pay for that, after all it does all the work.
And cat5e? Any ideas where it is at a good price?------

Don't know where to suggest, trouble with trying to get cable at a low price is that you may have to buy a large amount. Bite the bullet and try Maplin.

I think you are over complicating things, all you need do is run one unfiltered pair to the extension and fit a filtered extension faceplate.
