Re: Need help....can anyone explain???
Thanks to Brian69 and Ian for all your helpful suggestions, will sort the socket out tommorow after visiting maplins and let you know if I get better stats with my new router conected to the 'Master socket' which will be the one first fitted upstairs when I moved in.

Re: Need help....can anyone explain???
Hi Hopeful.
I know this does not help you, but for what it is worth this is what I would have done in your position.
(1) I would have moved the NTE-5 master as close as possible to where the line enters, and disconnected all sockets connected to the external box. This would mean that only the test socket would work with the faceplate removed.
(2) I would then fit a faceplate filter and run filtered extensions as necessary ( to sky box and up to fax/phone)
(3) Then put the router next to the master socket and use network mains device to connect to switch/PC upstairs.
(4) use short cable to connect router to faceplate filter.

Re: Need help....can anyone explain???
Just started the process of changing the faceplate on the Master Downstairs for an ordinary LJU2 from Maplin (it is now an ordinary socket). I am using that socket while I work on the one upstairs interestingly when I just plugged the router back in a minute ago, my downstream connection speed has gone up by 1meg.
I am about to go hardwire the extension into the NTE5 now so hope the stats improve, will post back in a little while.................Last edited by Hopeful; 10-03-08 at 08:01 PM.
