Master Socket and Extention Problems
Well, Today i was searching through this forum and a lot of people have said about numbers 1,3,4,6 not being connected because they are no longer needed and could speed up a few things, I thought Ok I'll remove them so i did and WoW my internet no longer works, It was really strange because i thought it would work. My wire setups are really strange also, I have seen a lot of people with the setup of
2 and 5 being blue
2 and 5 for mine are all orange including my extensions
The problem is i forgot where the wires go, would the setup with blue working 2 and 5 or would i have to stick with my orange. I would also like to know if i have to stick with orange where the wires go
I have
Blue/White,Orange/White and Green/White
White/Blue, White/Orange and White/Green
Thanks
I'm currently connected to the internet with the test socket

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
Hi Sc00by22.
The best bet here is to check the colours connected to your extensions, and match the colours up.
2 on the faceplate connects to 2 on the extensions. 5 to 5 and 3 to 3 you can leave all others disconnected. While you are doing this why not get a filter faceplate, this will give you a very good router connection. When it comes to the ring wire (the one on 3 ) it is only necessary to leave this disconnected at the faceplate.

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
You can get a filter faceplate from ADSL Nation.
If you have disconnected all the wires the colour code is
Blue or Blue with white rings to 2
Orange Or White with blue rings to 5
Brown or Orange with white rings to 3

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
That combination didn't work the combination I'm looking for is 2 and 5 as orange and 1,3,4,6 as Blue or Green, I'm finding it really hard to stick the wires back in as well because the socket is so old, Could i buy a new one?

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
You can buy new extension sockets at any hardware store, also the correct tool to insert the wires. If your wires do not follow the code I gave then you need to start again, connecting 2 on the faceplate to 2 at the extensions etc.

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
Now for the next problem, I connected the upstairs one the same as the master socket and it doesn't ring :S I tried the master socket on it's own and it doesn't ring but once i put it back onto the wall with the test socket it works, Does that mean I've wired it wrong?

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
You have not used a plug in filter. If you do not have a faceplate filter, all phones require a filter.

Re: Master Socket and Extention Problems
There's always been a filter in every phone socket in my house, I think i have done the wiring wrong because when you plug the main socket back into the wall it also slips into the test socket, so really the main socket isn't working its just the test socket. I think my whole house maybe wired up incorrectly
