Re: Try your master socket for better results
im in the same boat here, my router is about 5 meters from my master socket, ive just ordered a xte master faceplate (should be here by the weekend), few questions...
iveordered a 10m extension cable, i have got some plugs in the garage would it be better cutting down the extension cable to make it as small as possible? i presume if i curled up the excess i didnt need this could open up possibilities for noise etc
do i need to connect the ringwire to the filtered extensions? i disconnected this a few month back as it increased my snr a little.
thanks in advance

Re: Try your master socket for better results
How To Set UP Your Wiring To Give You The Best Chance Of Getting The Best Performance Your Line Can Support.
(1) Get a filter faceplate and fit it as per the Instructions that come with it (you will need to reconnect your ring wires).
Check that with the test socket exposed, all other telephone sockets have no dial tone.
Do a check at the test socket with a normal wired phone to ensure there is no noise on the line (dial a digit to kill the dial tone, you should only hear a low hiss)
(2) Connect router to filter with as short a cable as possible, not just a long one coiled up (my cable is 30cm)
(3) Connect router to computer by network cable or mains adaptors. Use wireless only as a last resort.

Re: Try your master socket for better results
After viewing this thread I thought hey why not take my faceplate off!
So I ran speed tests before and after!
Here you go:
Before
After
I'm thinking now about getting a faceplate that has a microfilter built in?

Re: Try your master socket for better results
Hi. I have just replaced my master socket with an ADSl Nation XTE -2005 and wired my Sky router direct to it, connected to my computer via cat6 Ethernet and gone from 8mb download speed to over 12Mb download speed.

Re: Try your master socket for better results
Will you always see an improvement if you plug directly into the master socket , last time I tried it did diddly squat

Re: Try your master socket for better results
You will nearly always see an improvement if you plug into the Test socket if you have extensions. If you have no extensions, it will make little or no difference, provided your faceplate is not faulty.

Re: Try your master socket for better results
`Not always.
If you have no phone extensions then it should be the same.
By using the test socket what you are doing is removing any extra wires etc that run around the house to other extensions and cause interference.
If you don't have any extensions then you won't have this interference and so you should see no difference.
